Dockside

Smack in the heart of downtown Saint Paul but feeling miles away from the city.  The docked boat is the Covington Inn Bed and Breakfast. For 30 years it was a working towboat, then spent about 20 years dry-docked in Louisiana before the River Valley Preservation Company towed her to Saint Paul and created one of the few floating bed and breakfasts in the country.

Ignition

Found myself standing on the Franklin Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis about 7:15 this morning: the freezing rain had slid past to our south and the temperature was in the tolerable range. I aimed the camera east and waited to see what would happen. The longer I stood there, the better the sky became.
And then just as suddenly, within half an hour, it was over and gone.

Creation/Destruction

Flow

Bitter cold, crazy wind, and blowing snow. There’s the Minneapolis winter I know and love. Said no one ever. At least not at my house.

Same bridge, different day

Same bridge we saw in the last post, from a different angle. Strolling around the cities has really brought home the concept of just how much water surrounds and intersects the St. Paul and the Minneapolis.

Stumbling around Crosby Lake Farm in the dark, waving a flashlight at imaginary things in the woods. Then the sky started to brighten and I got to see this along the Mississippi River.

Fall in

High above the Mississippi River on a rainy, breeze Saturday night. The path down to this vantage point was a slippery, muddy mess, but I made sure to stay way the heck back from the edge.
