December thaw

Holiday lights and reflections in what used to be an ice rink before the December thaw kicked in. Happy holidays, everyone.

Streaming 3rd Avenue

Watching the world go by from the corner of 10th St. and 3rd Ave., Minneapolis, MN.
The monster building to the left is the Campbell Mithum Tower, constructed in 1985 as the headquarters of Piper Jaffray, and now the home of Campbell Mithum, largest advertising agency in the Twin Cities.

Minneapolis winters: they’re beautiful but they make me crazy.
Looking toward the Hennepin Avenue Bridge. In the foreground is a concrete overflow spillway, or “apron”, built after the falls here partially collapsed in 1869.

Misty Morning Hop

A foggy start to this Minneapolis Saturday, but warm enough to actually photograph it without freezing. Still trying to make my peace with this winter. And yeah, I know it’s technically NOT winter, according to the calendar, but I’m still going to complain like it really is.

Let me show you around

Converge

Another shot from before the snow fell. Stomping around Minneapolis in the area known as the Southeast Minneapolis Industrial area.

Rocket to MPLS

What a difference 48 hours makes. Was out and about snapping a few photos late Saturday afternoon. The ground was still clear then, but after Monday's snow and sleet, the landscape looks quite different. To see this shot in color, check out the version posted on my Facebook page.

East v. West

Here we are in November already. Temperatures weren’t terrible today, so I ventured out near sunset to see what I could see. Wandered around near University Avenue for a bit, then found this bridge overlooking I-94. I’ve lived in St. Paul 22 years now and this was the first I’ve set foot on this bridge. The things you learn.

This is looking east on I-94, on the Pelham Blvd. bridge.

Smiling Pelican Bakeshop

Brutal late afternoon of trying to get a shot of downtown Minneapolis beneath heavy cloud. Got into position and thought the wind was going to blow over the tripod. Got that secured, started lining up a shot…and then the rain began to fall. Didn’t bring an umbrella, so that was a wrap.
Here’s a photo from sunnier moments this past weekend: the delightful Smiling Pelican Bakeshop in Maiden Rock, WI, with special guest star The Sunflowers.

View of Coit Tower from Ina Coolbrith Park

San Francisco, CA. Ina kicked ass, and the views from the park named after her do, too. Well worth a little extra stress on the legs to get to this place.

Bay blues

Lucky enough to have spent a few days in San Francisco with Mrs. Twin Cities Seen for an anniversary get-away weekend. Rolled my lazy bum out of bed pre-dawn one morning and walked to the Ferry Building at the end of Market St. This is what I saw when I got to the bay.
