Marcy and Woodstock chilling in Rice Park, St. Paul, MN.
Photos mostly from Minneapolis and Saint Paul, but also other places because sometimes I get lost.

All dolled up for the holidays
Insanely cold in these here parts for the better part of December. Feels like I haven't been out shooting in forever. Today the thermometer finally nudged up into a territory where I could stand to be outside for more than 12.4 seconds, so me and the camera headed to Rice Park in downtown St. Paul to try getting a few shots of the holiday lights. Here's the Landmark Center looking fine as evening falls.

View from a Death Star
Or
maybe just a view of the Landmark Center and downtown St. Paul from the
St. Paul Central Library, which I could spend days in.
Been crazy cold the past few days in this part of the country, so haven’t been out to do any shooting. This is a composite of three shots from August that I forgot about until doing a little file cleanup. Similar to an earlier shot I made that I wanted to make better. Hope you like it and hope you’re staying warm, wherever you are.

Commutator Breakdown, always the saaaaame
Wait, you mean this place wasn’t the inspiration for one of Led Zeppelin’s early hits? I stand corrected: starting in 1884, this used to be the Commutator Brass Foundry Company, but was converted some years ago to offices and small businesses.

Tropical encounter
Not so much from the outside, as the morning was crazy windy and on the
chillier side of the thermometer, but inside the Marjorie McNeely
Conservatory, it’s always summer as you stroll through a half acre of
sundry vegetation.
Puddle
Found this in Como Park one morning after a
rain the previous night. I had no idea what kind of plant it was, but
lucky for me, Mrs. Twin Cities Seen is down with the identifying of the
vegetation, and said, "That's a sedum, you knucklehead".

Everything is melting
Weird door down a weird alley, up a weird flight of steps in downtown St. Paul. Yeah, THAT door! You know which one I mean!

Sticking
to the bridge theme. Here's one from just before the leaves started to
turn. I was wandering around in Hidden Falls Park in St. Paul.

Same bridge, different day
Same bridge we saw in the last post, from a different angle. Strolling around the cities has really brought
home the concept of just how much water surrounds and intersects the St.
Paul and the Minneapolis.

Daybreaker
Stumbling
around Crosby Lake Farm in the dark, waving a flashlight at imaginary
things in the woods. Then the sky started to brighten and I got to see
this along the Mississippi River.

Putting the fall in Minnehaha Falls
Leaves are starting to turn; time to admit that summer really is winding down. Drove past Minnehaha Falls last night;
couldn't resist stopping off for a few shots (photos, not drinks...not
that I'm opposed to either).

Dry land for a change
Bridge at Hidden Falls Park, St. Paul, MN. Took this photo about a week
ago, before the recent spate of rain. Frequently this area is filled
with water running in from the Mississippi River, but the river was down
a good foot or more on the day I was there.

Fall in
High above the Mississippi River on a rainy, breeze Saturday night.
The path down to this vantage point was a slippery, muddy mess, but I
made sure to stay way the heck back from the edge.

Delivery
In the alley behind the Monte
Carlo in Minneapolis, open for business since 19-freakin'-06. One of the
oldest establishments in the historic warehouse district.

MPLS all aglow. If I'm not mistaken, that's the 10th Avenue Bridge in the foreground, but I wasn't exactly sure where I was, so don't quote me in any professional journal or if you're on a game show.

This looks like the work of Willoughby J. Edbrooke!
The Landmark
Center in downtown St. Paul, MN, designed by the aforementioned Mr.
Edbrooke, who served as Supervising Architect of the U.S. Treasury
Department from 1891-92. Construction began in 1892 and was completed in
1902.
